In 1979 , The A Collection was acquired all at once at an art gallery exhibit in Paris ,France by a private art collector who immediately fell under their spell . The collector personally commissioned Chris Foss for more ,but they were never delivered .
By the early 1980's , the industrial East German acrylic paint that Foss had accidentally stumbled upon in the early 1970's and which were a critical component utilized by Foss to make these seminal paintings ,had permanently ceased being manufactured. To this day ,Mr. Foss never managed to find a suitable replacement for this very particular paint which dried for eternity in less than 30 minutes.
The unique paint , the man and the era came together in a seemingly destined way from roughly around the time of the moon landings in July 1969. This is around the same time that Penthouse magazine's Bob Guccione turned Chris on to one of his future boss' works , Stanley Kubrick's 2001 : A Space Odyssey when all hell subsequently broke loose once publishers discovered Foss' groundbreaking skills and jaw dropping imagination.
These 24 unique , original art master pieces have never been sold or publicly exhibited since that initial purchase way back then . It is no small wonder that some people still believe them to have been all lost or merely fabulously famous book covers .
The Collection remains in excellent condition and has been hailed by Chris Foss himself who exclaimed excitedly to his old collector friend decades later : "You've still got all my best ones!" .
